Bagasse based co-generation power projects are encouraged in sugar mills for generation of surplus power. Based on the existing sugar mill crushing capacity in the state, it is estimated that there is a potential to setup 500 MW capacity co-generation power projects in the sugar mills.
NEDCAP has accorded sanction for 409 MW capacity co-generation power projects so far and as on 30-11-2007, 225.50 MW capacity projects have been commissioned in the state.
The DISCOMs are offering Rs. 2.63 per KWH for the power being exported to the grid from the co-generation power projects. The tariff is applicable upto a ceiling PLF of 55% and if the generation is more than 55% PLF, the variable cost along with an incentive of 25 Ps. Per unit will only be paid.
